If you have ever owned a home that has been attacked by termites, then you will understand how important it is to book an annual termite inspection. An annual termite inspection can identify any hazards that might lead to termites entering your property in the future, as well as checking for any current termite activity. Our licensed termite management technician can also offer advice around which termite management solution is best suited to your home - if you don’t already have one installed.
What’s the best way to prevent future termite attacks?
When it comes to termites, most home owners don’t realise that termites have entered their property until it’s too late. The best way to keep your home protected from termite invasions, is to have an annual termite inspection carried out and maintain an active termite barrier around the perimeter of your home.

How do termites get into my home?
Termites generally travel undetected into homes via mud trails. Termites like the dark, so they travel through soil and then build mud tube type tracks, which they then travel inside. These tracks are often seen around the perimeter of your home leading up walls into weep holes in brickwork or gaps in mortar. Once inside your wall cavity or floor space, they search for a water source or damp environment and they continue to travel to and from the nest. As they travel, they feed on internal timber structures such as framework, window architraves and skirting boards causing damage along the way.
Termite damage to timbers can be extensive – timber posts and structures are eaten away, which can then become unstable and pose a danger to occupants of the home. It takes experience to know how to effectively treat termites, so if you come across them by accident or find them whilst renovating, it’s best to put the damaged timber back in place and immediately contact us so we can come out and treat the termites for you.
What homes are more at risk of termite attack – what areas?
Termites often attack older style homes in well established suburbs throughout the Newcastle region. We are fortunate to have many green leafy pockets of bushland throughout Newcastle and the Hunter region, however this does means that there is more risk of termites. Don’t be fooled into thinking that if you don’t have large trees on your block, you are safe – termites can travel long distances to reach your property.
When homes were built back in the day, ant capping sitting on the top of piers was the only protection homes had to protect them against termites – these days, all new homes that are constructed must have an approved termite barrier installed. The good news is, that there are several termite barrier options available that are suited to older homes.
Houses with dark sub floor areas with drainage issues, or homes that have slow leaking pipework running under the floor area, can be more prone to termite attacks. Home owners often have no idea that they have a slow leaking pipe under their homes, or that their hot water system is dripping water, this is one of the reasons why we recommend annual termite inspections.
We regularly provide termite management advice and install termite barrier systems in homes throughout the following Newcastle suburbs;
Hamilton, Mayfield, Lambton, New Lambton, Kotara, New Lambton Heights, Kahibah, Adamstown, Islington, Stockton, Maryville, Hamilton South, Merewether, The Hill, Carrington, Waratah, Georgetown, Wallsend, Jesmond, Birmingham Gardens, Charlestown and Dudley areas.
We also offer a full range of pest control services, such as sprays to control spiders, ants and cockroaches.
